For those of you who don't know, I'm a teacher. One of my class's project is to get an HP laptop. We are currently down to about $290 on our donorschoose.org project. In order to help fund this project I'm going to run a Surprise Raffle. Here's how it will work. If you donate a $1 you get one entry to the raffle. If you donate $5 you get 7 entries. Anything over $5 you get twice as many entries as the $ you donate. The winner will receive a Flat Rate Box full of goodies. Below are some pictures of what could be included.

To start with there will be the polka dot cosmetic case in the second picture and items worth at least $20.

With each additional donation, I will add one or two items. Each item added will be worth at least $5. As items are added I will post a list of what is included and additional photos.

I came across the Walgreens Scenario Calculator at the forum on Weusecoupons.com You can enter what you plan on buying and what coupons/RR you have. It then tells you if its a moneymaker, what your out of pocket cost will be, etc.

I've participated in many coupon trains and have loved them. I am getting back into couponing and am interested in starting one myself. I'm curious. Would anyone be interested in joining/starting a coupon train?

Coupon Trains – The Basics

Every train is different, depending on who needs what, when, why, and where! Whoever starts up a train usually defines the specific goals and rules for that group. There are a few key fundamentals to consider before you decide which train is right for you.

Basic Coupon Trains – The basic coupon train begins with a group of 3 – 6 members at different mailing addresses. An envelope of coupons (typically 40 – 200) is mailed from the “conductor” to the first person on the “train route” (mailing list). That person takes out the coupons they want and replace them with other coupons at least equal to the number they took out. They then mail the envelope (“envie”) to the next person on the route, who does the same.

Ideally each person keeps the envelope for no longer than 1 – 3 days, and pulls out any expired coupons. The train needs to keep moving along, since the idea is to send and receive those much needed coupons before the next sale, or the expiration date. Coupons expire quickly, so the train is only worthwhile if the coupons can be received, matched up with sales, and redeemed before they expire.

One of my goals for this year is to keep clutter out of the house and this is a great way to do it. So, I've decided to go through the process again this month. You're really supposed to do this process in around a week. Since I just did this a month ago, I think I'm going to do a room a week.

Remember even if you throw out 50 of a similar item it only counts as 1 item. (4 T-shirts =1)

Tammileetips.com started almost two years ago. I found out I was going to lose my job of 12 years the week of my wedding. I had to quickly figure out a way to save money and help keep our family afloat. I started using coupons and the internet to save as much as possible. Friends and family started asking us how we were saving so much money with coupons. I created Tammileetips.com to help others save money like we were. Last year we were able to save over $10,000 using coupons and sales.

Our tagline is "Saving you money on the things you need so you can spend it on the things you want." We really follow this thought motto in real life. We take a portion of our coupon savings and put it towards travel. We love to explore and find new places to visit anywhere we can. This past year we were able to take a two week Caribbean cruise completely paid for with coupon savings. We used our coupon techniques to find a cruise that was on sale for 75% off and jumped at the chance to hit the beach.

If you are just starting out using coupons I would suggest looking at the food that you buy each week and how much it costs at the grocery store. I keep a list of our most often used food and beauty products and their regular prices. I use this to keep an eye out for great sales and coupons. I make sure and print any coupons I find for products that we use. If I find a sale that is half off or more than I will picked up multiple. This helps you start to build a stockpile so you do not have to run out and pay full price if you are running low on an item. You can print coupons from tammileetips.com. Each week I post the great deals that i see at grocery stores and health and beauty stores. You can also request free samples of products. Free samples are a great way to test out a product without having to pay full price for it. A lot of times the samples will come with a great coupon for the product.

One of my favorite places to find coupons is through our local newspaper. My mother-in-law brought us a subscription for my birthday or otherwise I would only buy the Sunday paper. If you're like I am, you want to know what kind of coupons you might get before purchasing a paper. One easy way to do this is to go to weusecoupons.com There you can find a great forum that only gives you a preview of the coupons, but also a place to find more coupons, trade coupons, and even print coupons!

In the beginning...

Welcome and thanks for stopping by. One of my goals for 2011 is to spend less and save more. In order to help meet that goal, I decided to begin a new blog devoted to being thrifty. I plan to post tips, deals, and challenges here so that while I'm helping myself, I can hopefully help other people as well.

I'm by no means an expert at this, but here's a few good sites that I've happened across in my research:

January is almost over so I will begin posting challenges for February relatively soon. If you have any ideas for challenges, please let me know. My husband's favorite is to set a meal budget and attempt to not eat out or prepare the same meal more than once in a month. It gets pretty interesting towards the end of the month.
